It does a disservice to the individuals making the music, and the people who have been documenting the music. We're at a crossroads, though; we are documenting the EDM scene, but want people to know that the world of electronic dance music is more than just the DJs on the Ultra main stage.
You can't really blame the outside media for any confusion with the term EDM, though - if no one is giving them a simple guide to differentiate dubstep from house, how can you get so cross when they mess a term up? The LFO synched wobble is trite and overused It needs to stop. Yeah The Fusion is pretty terrible. I can't really see how trance and dub step could go together One is all about hands in the air euphoria, the other is generally about heads down darkness.
Surely if you mixed the two together you'd end up with some weird schizophrenic sound that wouldn't really appeal to anyone, especially trance and dub step types? Once you're in the gutter, you may as well stay in the gutter - Dublin taxi driver Soundcloud sounds. I think not. As stated before Trance has been getting more and more watered down as the years pass, but there are still plenty of great producers out their breathing life into the genre.
The fact that TATW, ASOT etc are becoming more and more commercialised means that there are more and more newbies being attracted to this whole new "Trance" sound which is where I feel the problem lies. If they happened to dig a little deeper into the picture and find out about the not so mainstream artists out there like Patterson, Nick Callaghan, Van Dyk, etc they might get a taste of that proper oldskool Trance sound and tbh I reckon the majority of them wouldnt like it.

You should know the difference by the time you have finished reading this article. While House and Trance are generally slower, there are some differences between the two. For one, in many cases there is no beat on a House track compared to a Trance track.
This is because bass drum beats would always bump the sound in House. However, on most House tracks, there is just a simple beat.
In fact, there are many House and Trance tracks that are not really based around beats after all. For example, most House has a drum beat and bass beat, but there are also other instruments that play in the background.
These tracks do not have any real beats. On the contrary, in most of the tracks in dubstep, there is a beat going on. This is because it uses a wide variety of different sounds that create the beat. The most popular types of dubstep are dubstep basslines, grimey drums, and breakbeats.
Most tracks in dubstep have a bassline on them; however, dubstep also makes use of breaks and vocals. House music can sometimes be even confused with disco music as both are good for any party, regardless of the type of crowd. Almost any pop musician nowadays borrows loops, hooks, gimmicks, and melodies from house music. House musicians, conversely, borrow a lot of samples from popular hits.
